The Chicago Blackhawks Reading Program, presented by the Dover Foundation, recently revealed the winner of the 2018-2019 school year. After the six-month program, Ms. Guzman’s 6th graders at Eli Whitney Elementary School prevailed as the winners by reading over 430,000 pages.
The elementary school students’ hard work and dedication to reading earned them pizza for lunch and a visit from Chicago Blackhawks forward John Hayden.
While visiting, Hayden read aloud “Wacky Hockey Trivia” to the children. After story time, they were able to ask the hockey player questions including, “What was your favorite subject in school?” To which Hayden replied, “Political Science.”
After a fun-filled afternoon, Chicago Blackhawks treat bags were handed out and the excited and deserving group of kids gathered around Hayden for a photo.
Hayden shared sentiments on behalf of the whole team, “A lot of us Blackhawks value education, now and growing up, and we wanted to recognize them to show we are proud of them.”
