The Heart and Soul of Cooler Operation

New Infinity 060 Zero Energy Doors exceeds DOE standards and enhance product visibility

While the eyes may be the windows to the soul, it is the grocery store and supermarket retailer’s cooler doors that can be the windows to a healthier bottom line — in more ways than one, but only if the proper technology is deployed.

The cooler doors on reach-in cases or walk-in coolers are a critical point of interaction with the customer. First, they allow the shopper to view the products that are displayed inside the cooler, followed by an actual physical interaction as the shopper grabs the handle, pulls open the door and reaches in for the desired item. The impact of this interaction can be lessened by cooler doors that have frames, handles and other hardware that are too bulky, which blocks the view of the inquisitive shopper.

That’s why Anthony®, a leading provider of cooler and freezer doors, and related equipment, has developed the Infinity 060 Cooler Door, the latest addition to its all-glass-surface Infinity Series. What separates the Infinity 060 door from the competition is a painted border that measures just 0.60”*, which increases merchandising visibility by 7% when compared to traditional cooler doors.

“There are more food-and-beverage purchasing options than ever, but if a consumer can’t see the product in the cooler, they can’t buy it,” said Sean McGrann, Vice President of Sales & Marketing for Anthony. “That’s why we made the Infinity 060 door’s border so thin, to make it easier for consumers to see and purchase products.”

The most important feature for the grocery store and supermarket retailer is the Infinity 060’s Zero Energy Door operational capability. Simply put, the Infinity 060 does not require any energy in order to provide excellent insulation and anti-condensation capabilities, meaning no electricity is required to facilitate the door’s operation.

This is a crucial consideration because in April 2014 the U.S. Department of Energy (DOE), in an effort to reduce greenhouse gases and slow climate change, developed more stringent energy-efficiency standards that set new levels of maximum allowable energy consumption for commercial refrigeration equipment. The DOE estimates that the new energy standards for commercial refrigerators and freezers will reduce U.S. electricity consumption by about 340 billion kilowatt-hours over the next 30 years and save businesses $12 billion in energy costs. In addition, they will allow the U.S. to reduce CO2 emissions by 142 million metric tons, which is equivalent to the annual emissions of 30 million cars.

Retailers face a posted deadline of March 27, 2017 for new coolers to be in compliance, which is now only eight months away. Fortunately for them, the Infinity 060’s status as a recognized Zero Energy Door technology enables them to satisfy the DOE’s new regulatory standards. Additionally, Infinity 060’s extreme efficiency not only exceeds the 2017 DOE standards, but the energy savings provides a quick two-year ROI through an immediate reduction in utility costs.

The Infinity 060 doors are available with a plastic frame for use with cooler reach-in cases and an aluminum frame for both reach-in case and walk-in cooler applications. Other standard features include auto hold-open and door stop, spring-loaded hinges, LED or T-8 lighting, and torque and sag adjust, front-loading raceways and U-shaped mullions for easy service.

The Infinity 060 Cooler Door series is backed by Anthony’s 10-year glass-seal warranty and a 12-month warranty on parts and labor. For more information on the Infinity 060 doors, please visit www.anthonyintl.com.
