2016-2017 Blackhawks Season
The Inaugural Blackhawks Reading Program, presented by Dover Corporation, motivated over 5,300 students across Chicagoland to hit the books. After the numbers were tallied, Mrs. Diatte’s 4th grade class at North River Elementary School earned a visit from Chicago Blackhawks goaltender, Scott Darling.
Darling greeted the class, signed autographs, and fittingly, read a book aloud to the excited students.
In conjunction with Dover Corporation, the Chicago Blackhawks announced in Fall 2016 that they have launched the Chicago Blackhawks Reading Program. The program, which runs from October through the end of March, is designed for children at Chicagoland schools in grades K-8 to encourage students to read in and out of the classroom.

Each student will receive a reading log and bookmark where they can track how many pages they read at home and in the classroom. Teachers will collect their student’s reading logs at the end of each month and add up the number of pages read. Each month, teachers will submit their classroom’s total pages read and a top reader of the month online. The top five readers of the month will receive two 300-level tickets to a Blackhawks game, a certificate signed by a Blackhawks player and recognition on the Blackhawks website. The following top 20 readers of the month will also receive a certificate signed by a Blackhawks player and recognition on the Blackhawks website. The classroom with the most pages read at the end of March will win a visit from a Blackhawks player and Tommy Hawk. For more information, please visit nhl.com/blackhawks/community/reading-program.
